Youth Voice Canterbury are excited to bring back the YMCA Canterbury Youth Awards for a second time to celebrate the amazing things that young people are doing in our communities! Youth in Canterbury are doing lots of great things and in 2018 we're pulling together even more categories to create more opportunities to acknowledge our region's rangatahi.

Wayne Francis Charitable Trust Leadership Award
The Leadership Award will be awarded to a young person who has:
PYLAT Commitment to Wellbeing Award
The Commitment of Wellbeing Award will be awarded to a young person who has shown commitment to protecting or promoting health and wellbeing issues at a community, group, or individual level or within an organisation, club, or school. This person may have raised awareness of health or wellbeing issues or actively organised initiatives, events or programmes which address a health or wellbeing issue.
Asia New Zealand Foundation Advocate for Inclusion and Diversity Award
Youth Voice Canterbury values inclusion and seeks to ensure that all young people are included in decision-making. This award seeks to acknowledge a youth participation group or young person who is advocating for inclusivity and diversity of under-represented groups by demonstrating a commitment to and/or promotion of inclusion and diversity within a group, community, project, or place.
University of Canterbury Community Action Award
The “giving youth a good name award” – The Community Action Award will be awarded to a young person that actively gets involved and commits their time and energy volunteering and makes a significant impact in their community.
YMCA Young Champion Award
The Young Champion Award will be awarded to a young person who has made a positive change in their life and inspired their peers in a positive way. This young person may have made a dramatic change in their life or someone else’s life, or may have succeeded in the face of adversity and overcome obstacles.
Youth Voice Canterbury Te Tohu Tokomaha
Te Tohu Tokomaha will be awarded to a group of young people who represent young people, work together to benefit other young people in the community, and have a commitment to positive youth development and youth participation.
Vodafone New Zealand Foundation Te Tohu Hihiri Taumata
Te Tohu Hihiri Taumata will be a person nominated by a young person or a group for supporting a young person or youth participation group in their development in the areas of (but not limited to) leadership, wellbeing, inclusion, positive changes, community action, or youth participation over and above the requirements of their paid role.
Supreme Youth Award for their District
The Supreme Youth Award will be awarded to a young person who has participated in or made a significant contribution to young people in their district, in areas such as (but not limited to) leadership, wellbeing, inclusion, positive changes, community action, or youth participation. The young person who wins this award is someone who might address current needs for young people in their community or give young people a voice.

Child and Youth Friendly Christchurch Child of the Year
The Child of the Year Award will be awarded to a child who has made a positive influence or change within the life of another child, children or young person/s. This may have been through providing buddy/peer support to another child, helping to raise awareness of needs, or a project to tangibly bring change. They will have had active involvement and time committed towards another individual or group of children and young people, resulting in the improvement of their circumstances or environment, perspective and attitude, or opportunities for inclusion and having their voice heard.
Child and Youth Friendly Christchurch Child Friendly Community
The Child Friendly Community Award will be awarded to a Christchurch community group who have worked actively to improve the lives of children and young people living within Christchurch. This award seeks to acknowledge a community group who is advocating for the rights, needs and wellbeing of children and young people, or who may have initiated a tangible project to bring positive change to a place or experience for the current and future young citizens of Christchurch.
The Leadership Award will be awarded to a young person who has:
- Demonstrated outstanding leadership in a project, organisation, or at school;
- Demonstrated their ability to successfully lead others and is a positive role model
